Employees Stay Active with 2020 Fitness Challenge, Adapting to Home Workouts and Social Distancing
Each spring, employees at Tolleson Wealth Management participate in a beloved step challenge that encourages activity through friendly competition between teams. The annual program encourages employees to walk more and increase their overall physical activity, with rewards for milestones. This year, 13 teams of five to six employees competed to hit daily and weekly goals as individuals and as team members.
To accommodate the change in habits as employees worked from home, the firm curated a list of online workout programs that employees could do easily and in smaller spaces. This year’s challenge differed from previous challenges by focusing on tracking “active minutes” versus step counting, although social distanced walks and outdoor activities still qualified. As a reward for signing up, participants received a branded resistance band in the mail to help aid in their creativity of staying active at home. “We have always valued the well-being of our employees and continue to make wellness a priority no matter the circumstances,” says Human Resources Coordinator Meera Joseph. “We felt that it was now more important than ever to provide an opportunity to encourage our employees to stay active, continue to build relationships with colleagues, and prioritize their well-being in a fun and safe way.”
The 2020 Fitness Challenge is one of the many ways Tolleson Wealth Management is continuing normal programs to keep the culture strong while working remotely. Nearing the end of the challenge, employees collectively logged nearly 40,000 active minutes.
