Human Resources Director Lorea Seidel Receives Brené Brown’s ‘Dare to Lead’ Facilitator Certification
Lorea Seidel, Human Resources Director, spent three days in San Antonio in September to complete the ‘Dare to Lead’ Facilitator Certification with Brené Brown. Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston where she is the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair in the Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the last two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and most recently completed a seven-year study on courageous leadership. The most significant finding from Brown’s latest research is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable.
The ‘Dare to Lead’ curriculum covers the skills, practices, and tools that underline Brown’s four principles of daring leadership: rumbling with vulnerability, living into your values, braving trust, and learning to rise. Now that Seidel is certified, she is bringing the Dare to Lead courage-building content into Tolleson Wealth Management. She says, “I am using the principles and concepts in conversations, trying to apply them to current situations. Eventually, the principles will become part of a shared language across the firm.”
Seidel is a proponent of Brown’s grounded theory research methodology because it focuses on people’s real experiences. Brown investigates what happens in real workplaces and looks for patterns, trends, and issues that then tell us what works and doesn’t work in leadership. Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead Facilitator program evaluates individual’s based off educational background, past training and certifications, as we all as experience coaching and training others. Seidel was selected out of numerous applications to participate in the 2019 cohort which included a wide variety of coaches, consultants and trainers from across the globe.
Building a learning culture is important to the firm’s vision and growth. Tolleson Wealth Management is extremely proud to support talent development and providing meaningful learning opportunities in employees’ careers.
