2021 Haiti Earthquake: A Guide for Giving

Haiti was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on Saturday, Aug. 14, causing widespread destruction. Aid organizations are assessing the damage on the ground, while forecasters are keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Grace, to determine the best ways to aid Haiti. We put together a list of suggested organizations for those interested in helping those affected by the earthquake.

Airlink is a nonprofit organization working with aviation and logistics partners to transport relief workers and emergency supplies for reputable non-governmental organizations responding to rapid-onset disasters and other humanitarian crises around the globe. American Red Cross: Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from this disaster. This includes providing food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, recovery planning, and other assistance. Haitian Red Cross staff and volunteers are responding alongside local authorities as well as other humanitarian organizations to help with first aid, search-and-rescue operations, and sheltering efforts throughout the affected region. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent, global movement providing medical aid where it is needed most. They are currently on the ground, responding to medical needs in Haiti. For more information or to donate, click the link above.

Samaritan’s Purse is a faith-based organization. Samaritan’s Purse responds to the urgent needs of families devastated by natural disasters. They immediately began to mobilize disaster response specialists and position relief supplies for deployment. Team Rubicon serves communities by mobilizing veterans to continue their service, leveraging their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. When Making Donations

If you decide to donate, we encourage you to give to one of these organizations or an organization you know. Make sure your donation is secure by donating through an organization’s official website or sending a check in the mail. GoFundMe sites or links through social media sites are discouraged because of scams exploiting this disaster. For all donations, please specify that the donation is to assist the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.
