Striking on Sunday, Aug. 29, Hurricane Ida impacted the Southern Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane and continues to create issue for the Northeast. If you are interested in helping those affected by Hurricane Ida and the surrounding areas, we have included some suggestions below.

American Red Cross donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from this disaster. This includes providing food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support, recovery planning, and other assistance. For more information or to donate, click the link above.

North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is part of a local collaboration called the Mass Care Task Force, which leverages the strengths of four separate organizations to respond to the needs of area neighbors following a major disaster. Operation Kindness is partnering with the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter in Louisiana to help intake dogs and cats evacuated from the state due to the storm. Samaritan’s Purse is a faith-based organization. Samaritan’s Purse responds to the urgent needs of families devastated by the wind, rain, and storm surge of catastrophic hurricanes. Team Rubicon is an international disaster response nonprofit that unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly provide relief to communities in need. Team Rubicon is readying early response teams and staging resources to respond following Hurricane Ida’s landfall. Its team monitors the immediate risk for vulnerable communities in areas in the path of Hurricane Ida and is prepared to respond as the water levels recede. The Salvation Army serves in nearly every zip-code across the United States and can provide immediate disaster relief. It provides services such as emergency preparedness, immediate emergency response, long-term disaster recovery, and emotional and spiritual care. World Vision is rushing truckloads of critically needed supplies to the affected area, working closely with our local church partners to reach the most vulnerable with resources like food, water, tents, hygiene and sanitizing wipes, generators, flashlights, baby diapers, clothing, and more.

When Making Donations

If you decide to donate, we encourage you to give to one of these organizations or an organization you know. Make sure your donation is secure by donating through an organization’s official website or sending a check in the mail. GoFundMe sites or links through social media sites are discouraged because of scams exploiting this disaster. For all donations, please specify that the donation is to assist the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.
