Invested and Empowered: Aleta Stampley Speaks at D Magazine’s Invest in You Summit

At this year’s Invest in You: Health, Beauty + Wealth Summit, presented by D Magazine, Managing Director Aleta Stampley spoke in the afternoon panel, “Invested and Empowered: Financial Fluency for the Next Chapter.” The session focused on the unique financial transitions women experience in their 40s through 60s, from balancing retirement and family priorities to managing increasing wealth and influence.
The panel addressed the significant shift on the horizon: by 2030, women are projected to control five times more wealth than ever before. With varying backgrounds from estate planning to family law, panelists emphasized the importance of women’s financial acumen and education, urging attendees to become the CEOs of their own affairs with the confidence to build a trusted team for navigating wealth.
“Take a more active role in your finances,” Aleta encouraged, reminding the audience that longevity requires planning with a multi-generational perspective. She stressed that being confident in decision-making today lays the foundation for long-term financial wellbeing.
“Women over 45 are sometimes facing decisions on their own, and that’s very different calculus than when we’re only advising married couples. Now we’re dealing with divorce, widowhood, and companionship. That requires a very different type of advising than what we were doing before,” she explained.
Aleta’s role at Tolleson as Managing Director of Philanthropy and Family Engagement provides her with a deep experience in strategy, analysis, and governance as she collaborates with families on philanthropic impact. From her perspective, understanding the change someone wishes to make in the world can strengthen the role that philanthropy plays in shaping their wealth and legacy.
An effective philanthropist, Aleta explained, takes a deep dive into an issue to truly understand it. They look for a sustainable way to solve a problem. She encouraged others who are interested in philanthropy to do the same, asking, “What do you value? What change do you want to see? What issue do you want to solve for?” Starting with these questions can help a person or family better understand what sort of impact they can make in the world and how they can approach it, whether that is with time, money, advocacy, or a combination.
Overall, D Magazine’s “Invest in You” panel provided thoughtful perspectives around wealth, planning, and philanthropy to help empower women to take charge of their financial futures and plan effectively for the years ahead.
